The 72nd Augusta Symphony season opens with music of brilliance, power, and optimism. Liszt’s thrilling Mazeppa sets the stage with sweeping Romantic energy and virtuosic orchestral fireworks. Augusta Symphony’s own Principal Timpanist Denis Petrunin takes the spotlight in Michael Daugherty’s Raise the Roof, a dazzling concerto that turns the timpani into a heroic solo instrument – an exuberant celebration of rhythm, architecture, and imagination. The concert concludes with Prokofiev’s majestic Symphony No. 5, a towering statement of human triumph written in the final months of World War II.
