Youth Concerto Competition

Open to regional students ages 10-18


The 2021-2022 Symphony Youth Concerto Competition is open to students ages 10-13 (5th – 8th grades) and 14 – 18 (9th – 12th grades) residing in Georgia or South Carolina who are students of orchestral instruments including strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and piano.

  • There will be two divisions – Junior and Senior. Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each division.
  • Cash prizes: $300 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place – in each division
  • Opportunity to perform with the Augusta Symphony under the direction of Maestro Dirk Meyer. Final decisions concerning repertoire performed with orchestra will be subject to Maestro Meyer’s approval.

Applicants must submit a completed application, $50 non-refundable application fee, and a video recording of their performance. This must arrive by Monday, January 10, 2022. Selected competitors will be notified by Monday, February 7, 2022. Electronic submissions and payment preferred. Competitors will perform one movement from an orchestral concerto or piece of his/her choice. Selections MUST be memorized and no more than 10 minutes in length. Each applicant must provide their own piano accompanist on the day of the competition.

The winner will be announced at a reception immediately following the competition on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
