The Augusta Symphony is pleased to announce Community Chords, a significant outreach and collaboration with the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Music Therapy program. In an effort to connect our orchestra with veterans in a truly impactful way, our musicians will be regularly playing at both the uptown and downtown VA hospitals. Additionally, some of our musicians will provide music on a monthly basis to the program’s Music Assisted Meditation and Relaxation sessions. These proven music therapy sessions are designed to help veterans experiencing PTSD, depression, anxiety, and pain. In addition some participants in the VA’s music therapy program will have regular opportunities to attend private rehearsals of the Augusta Symphony at the Miller Theater. The goal is to create relationships between our orchestra and these veterans and to ultimately encourage their deeper participation in the arts in Augusta.
This year’s concert featuring Little River Band is fundraiser for the Community Chords project. Community members can support this by purchasing tickets for themselves or purchasing tickets for veterans to attend this concert free of charge through our Sponsor A Veteran program.
